Public TV in an empty house
Can't believe you're not around
In the suburbs laying off the wine
'Cuz I don't like being 25
I need you here to keep me on my feet
I don't wanna die on 7th Street
I need you here to keep me on my feet
I don't wanna die on 7th--
So glad to be around, so sad to see me go.
Ya look me up and down but you say that, "maybe, I don't know."
And you don't mean it, but it's okay, I know.
The next week you are gone;
You gotta let me go
No remorse, no explanation.
I don't ask questions; I just get up and I go.
I'll run away again - far, far away
You'll say, "I told you so" for yet another day
So glad to feel so down
So sad you aren't around
And it's not so bad - I'm seeing you all over town
The world outside is always bringin' me way down into a malaise
The people passing on the street don't seem to care 'bout anything
The noise it's droning, on and on
Waves seeping in my mending brain
Guests uninvited but I know I'm gonna host 'em anyway
We're so few and far between
Each and every day
Not knowing what will be as the sun comes up each day
But I know I love you anyway
We stay inside it gets real cold
The frozen bite keeps us at bay
Just prisoners in our own home
Couldn't be bothered anyway
You catch my eye as you walk on
Say you're just goin' your own way
I wanna marry you my love
Can't help but stare 'most every day
We're so few and far between
Each and every day
We're so few and far between
Each and every day
Not knowing what will be as the sun comes up each day
But I know I love you anyway

Introducing... GOLD STAR.
GOLD STAR is the artistic outlet of Tehya Deardorff guided by her own experiences as a weirdo, computer-obsessed, gay native living in flyover country. Prominent musical influences include the fuzz pedal, '90s Britrock, grunge, American proto-punk, the Elephant 6 collective, early 2010s-era surf and Burger rock, '60s pop and country, and '70s afrobeat. GOLD STAR's art direction and ethos is an homage to the pre-social media Internet of the 2000s that raised many of us weirdo 20-somethings.
THANKS
=====
My deepest gratitude goes to my friends, family, and fellow musicians who have supported me along the long road to finally releasing something of my own. I've been involved in a ton of projects over the last 8 years, so this feels weird and a little bit terrifying. Thanks mom for getting me that First Act acoustic 20 years ago and letting me play along to "Nimrod" 8,000 times even though it was always painfully out of tune. Thank you to Larry for gifting me that 100-proof, anarcho-punk DNA. Thank you to my beautiful smoking hot super smart big brain wife for always making me finish my songs instead of deleting them. Thanks to my cats for being so cute. Thank you to Willy for always pushing me to keep pursuing music and sending me the best underground jangle pop tracks. Thank you so much to Fran for all your help in getting this project designed exactly how I've always imagined; I couldn't be more pleased. A million thank yous to Grady for putting their recording magic on these tracks and making me hate them far less at the end of the day; you truly have a gift. Finally, endless thanks to YOU for supporting my big art project and buying this record. I truly hope you love it and that you find something memorable that resonates with you in these songs.
See you all out on the road, so so soon. :-)

Combining crooned murder ballads with raw, angsty hard rock hooks, Melbourne's The Ugly Kings are a wrecking crew well worth watching. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 15, 2021
This Pittsburgh band's gloriously messy mash-up of post-punk, garage rock, and shoegaze is snotty enough to be considered plain old punk. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 2, 2022
